New York Giants Hire Matt Nagy As Offensive Coordinator

The New York Giants are rounding out their coaching staff by brining in Matt Nagy to be the team’s new offensive coordinator.

Nagy, who has spent the last 3 seasons as offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, will be tasked with continuing Jaxson Dart’s development at QB. After his contract expired at the end of last season, he and the team opted not to renew to allow him to pursue head coaching opportunities elsewhere. The Chiefs would eventually bring back former OC Eric Bieniemy to replace him.

The 47 year old interviewed for several head coaching vacancies this hiring cycle, but was ultimately unsuccessful. He was a finalist for the Titans job, but the franchise opted to go with Robert Saleh instead.

According to reports, other candidates for the Giants OC position included Kim Bob Cooter, Alex Tanney, Kliff Kingsbury, Todd Monken, Davis Webb, Charlie Weis Jr., and Brian Callahan. With a 5th ranked rushing offence, and explosive young pieces like Malik Nabers, and Cam Skattebo to continue to build around, Nagy will be expected to keep the chains moving in year 1 at MetLife Stadium.

Nagy has Super Bowl winning experience as a coordinator and is a former AP NFL Coach of the Year award winner back in 2018. Ultimately his time in Chicago as a head coach was undone by inconsistent quarterback play, which is something he’ll look to avoid as long as Jaxson Dart can stay healthy in 2026.

He and Giants head coach John Harbaugh are both disciples of the Andy Reid coaching tree, though this will be their first time working directly with one another.

The Giants are coming off a 4-13 season, and currently hold the 5th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft this spring. Whether the front office opts to add another weapon to their offence, or look to shore up the league’s 28th ranked defensive unit remains to be seen.
