Athletics Extend Jack Wilson On 7 Year Deal

All-Star shortstop Jacob Wilson and the Athletics have come to terms on a seven-year contract worth $70M on Friday, locking up a key piece of the team’s future. The deal includes a club option for an eighth season, meaning he will be under team control through 2034.

Originally selected by the A’s with the sixth pick in the 2023 draft out of Grand Canyon University Wilson dominated minor league pitching, hitting .393/.439/.601 before making his MLB debut barely a year after he was selected. The son of former big league shortstop Jack Wilson, the right handed bat figures to challenge for multiple batting titles over the course of his career.

Amongst the 560 big leaguers to make at least 40 plate appearances this past season, his 7.5% strikeout rate was the second-lowest in Major League Baseball trailing only Luis Arraez.

The 23 year old finished second in rookie of the year voting to teammate Nick Kurtz after batting .311 with 13 home runs and an .799 OPS in his rookie campaign. Wilson is the latest A’s player to put pen to paper on a long term deal over the last year.

Since the start of 2025, Brent Rooker (5 years, $60M), Lawrence Butler (7 years, $65.5M) and Tyler Soderstrom (7 years, $86M) have all inked extensions, locking up the team’s core through at least 2030. That timeline is noteworthy as construction on the franchise’s new stadium in Las Vegas continues with an estimated completion time of 2028. Ownership has made it a priority to ensure that when the team moves into their new facility, that they’ll have a competitive roster for their fanbase.
