Former WWE superstar Mick Foley took to social media this week to announce that he would no longer be appearing at or supporting WWE events for the duration of Donald Trump’s presidency.
Foley announced the decision to pause his relationship with WWE, as a result of their ongoing support of Trump over the years. The final straw appeared to be Trump’s cruel comments following the murder of Rob Reiner this week.
For context, here are the comments in question which Trump made on social media:
The 60 year old Foley posted on his Instagram account “Reading the President’s incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death is the final straw for me.”
“I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy. Last night, I informed @WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office.”
“Additionally, I will not be signing a new Legends deal when my current one expires in June. I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me.” For their part, WWE has yet to respond to Foley’s announcement.
In a separate post, musician Jack White lambasted the president for his comments. “Trump you disgusting, vile, egomaniac, loser, child,” White wrote. “To use someone’s tragic death to promote your own vanity and fascist authoritarian agenda is a corrupt and narcissistic sin. Shame on you Trump and anyone who defends this.”
This post was then shared by Foley, who added “What @officialjackwhite said here is spot on,” Foley wrote. “How any of my @wwe colleagues can stand by, let alone stand next to this man is beyond me.”
While noble, Foley’s actions are unlikely to have much of an impact unless his fellow superstars begin to follow suit as well. The WWE is deeply invested in all things “Trump”, going back decades to when Vince McMahon was still running things at the company.
Trump was inducted into the WWE hall of fame in 2013, while Linda McMahon has held several positions in Trump’s cabinet during his time as president. Current Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque has also been involved in the renewed presidential fitness test program which Trump relaunched in 2025.
Over the years other wrestlers such as Kevin Nash, CM Punk, and Dave Bautista have expressed their displeasure of Trump led policies. However Foley appears to be taking a very public stance, and backing it up by severing ties with the company altogether. Something his peers have been reluctant to do, regardless of their political beliefs.
