The Ottawa Senators have announced plans to add former head coach Jacques Martin to the team’s ring of honour in a celebration next January.
The former Jack Adams winning coach helped guide the team to the franchise’s only President’s Trophy back in 2002-2003, and remains in an advisory role with the club to this day. He is the team’s all-time coaching leader in games, wins and playoff wins.
“I have been privileged to coach outstanding players and not only great players, but great people. And that was the reason I was able to get there,” Martin said in a team release.
Martin officially took over as head coach on January 24th 1996, and will be honoured 30 years to the day later when the Senators host the Carolina Hurricanes at the CTC. The 73 year old will become the 4th member of the Senators ring of honour, joining Bryan Murray, Wade Redden and Dr. Don Chow.
The former bench boss was recently inducted into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame in a ceremony earlier this year.
