New York Islanders Announce Injury Update on Forward Kyle Palmieri

The New York Islanders announced today that forward Kyle Palmieri is expected to miss an estimated six to eight months after suffering a torn ACL. The injury occurred during the second period of Friday night’s matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers, a 4–3 shootout loss at UBS Arena. Following extensive evaluation by the Islanders’ medical staff, it was determined that Palmieri will require surgery and a lengthy period of rehabilitation.

Palmieri, 34, sustained the injury on an awkward collision along the boards with Flyers defenceman Jamie Drysdale. Despite immediately displaying signs of discomfort, the veteran winger remained engaged in the play, and in a remarkable display of determination and skill, Palmieri intercepted the puck from Philadelphia blueliner Emil Andrae while skating toward the Islanders bench and helped set up Emil Heineman’s goal moments later.

Prior to the injury, Palmieri appeared in 25 games this season, recording six goals and 12 assists for 18 points, while averaging 18:53 of ice time per game. His versatility, leadership, and ability to contribute in all situations have been central to the Islanders’ success throughout the 2025-26 NHL campaign.

This season marks Palmieri’s sixth year on Long Island, following his arrival via trade with the New Jersey Devils in 2021. Since joining the organization, Palmieri has served as a consistent offensive contributor and respected voice in the locker room. He played a key role in the Islanders’ memorable postseason run in 2021, highlighted by his multi-goal performance in Game 1 of the First Round against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Palmieri is currently in his 16th NHL season, having originally been selected 26th overall in the 2009 NHL Draft by the Anaheim Ducks. Throughout his career, he’s compiled 276 goals and 545 points in 925 regular-season games, establishing himself as one of the league’s most reliable and respected wingers.

The organization will provide further updates on Palmieri’s progress as they become available. In the meantime, the Islanders will look to their roster depth to help fill the void created by his absence as the team continues to compete in a tightly contested Metropolitan Division.

New York is next in action on Sunday as they play host to the Washington Capitals in a 1pm ET afternoon affair.
