Ravens Trade Odafe Oweh To Chargers

The Baltimore Ravens are sending edge rusher Odafe Oweh, along with a 2027 7th round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for safety Alohi Gilman and. 2026 5th round pick.

Coming off a breakout 2024 campaign where he registered 10 sacks and 23 QB hits, Oweh has struggled to start off the year, failing to register a sack across his team’s first 5 contests. He’s also seen his workload scaled back in recent weeks, accounting for only 45% of the Ravens defensive snaps thus far.

Set to become an unrestricted free agent at season’s end, the 26 year old is due for a pay raise, which evidently, Baltimore wasn’t comfortable paying. By dealing him to the Chargers, Baltimore will save roughly $8M against the cap, and frees up money to potentially make some additional moves in the near future.

Coming back the other way, Gilman is a former Notre Dame alum, who was a team captain during Kyle Hamilton’s freshman season. The former Fighting Irish is now the second safety the Ravens have added this week after signing C.J. Gardner-Johnson to their practice squad.

Baltimore’s defence has been decimated by injuries to start off the year, and have allowed the 2nd most passing yards against in the league. By injecting some new bodies into the secondary, the Ravens are hoping to turn around what’s been a dismal start to the 2025 NFL campaign.

Gilman has played 277 defensive snaps for the Chargers this season recording 22 tackles and 3 passes defended in the process. The 28 year old is also an impending free agent following the season, so Baltimore will essentially get a free look at him for the remainder of 2025 before needing to commit any term or cap space to him.

Up next for the Ravens is a home date with the Rams on Oct 12th, while the Chargers will travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins.
