The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without Anthony Edwards for the next two weeks after an MRI confirmed a strained right hamstring.
Edwards is believed to have suffered the injury in the first quarter of his team’s game against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday. The 24 year old scored just 3:07 into the game but took some stiff contact on his way to the basket. After Indiana called timeout, Edwards would be subbed out of the game and would not return.
Originally described as hamstring tightness by the team, additional testing revealed additional damage which the team hopes to be cautious with. Head coach Chris Finch didn’t provide much in terms of updates or recovery timelines in his most recent media availability.
The team plans to re-evaluate their star player a week from now, but if his current 14 day absence holds, Edwards could be in line to miss his team’s next 8 games.
The former top pick from the 2020 draft was off to a hot start to the 2025-26 NBA campaign, scoring 41 points in his team’s season opener, and following that up with a 31 point performance vs. the Lakers. Some keen eyed observers did however notice that Edwards could be seen trying to loosen up his leg during Friday’s contest vs. LA, suggesting that Sunday’s injury may have been lingering from a previous bump.
If the Georgia alum does in fact miss the next several weeks, it would mark the longest stretch of his young career that he would be sidelined due to injury.
Teammate Naz Reid told reporters after the game that the team will miss Edwards, but have faith that they can continue to perform at a high level even without the 3x NBA All-Star. “Just be us,” Reid said. “I think we can all pick up the load and do what we do best. We don’t have to overreact, just do what we’ve been doing. Be consistent.”
The first test without Edwards will come Monday night as the Denver Nuggets come to town for a 9:30pm ET tip.
