Mavericks Sign P.J. Washington To 4 Year Extension

The Dallas Mavericks have come to terms on a new 4 year, $90M contract extension with forward P.J. Washington the club announced Wednesday.

The new deal will kick in during the 2026-27 NBA campaign, and will keep Washington tied to the franchise through the 2029-30 season. Additionally, the 27 year old will now be trade ineligible for the upcoming year.

After being selected with the 12th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Washington spent the next 4 and a half seasons with the Charlotte Hornets. Dallas then acquired the versatile forward at the 2024 NBA trade deadline, where he was a key member of the team’s surprise run to the NBA Finals.

In 2024-25 Washington averaged 14.7pts/7.8reb/2.3ast/1.1stl per game across 57 contests. With one year remaining on his deal which would see him earn $14.1M this year, the former Kentucky Wildcat will now serve as a key piece of the club’s core moving forward.

After winning the 2025 NBA Draft lottery, Dallas will enter the 2025-26 season with Washington, Cooper Flagg, Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, and Daniel Gafford in their front court. Sprinkle in Kyrie Irving to bring the ball up the floor, and suddenly the Mavericks are looking like a potential contender in the ultra competitive Western Conference.
