Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn will miss at least 4 weeks after suffering a collapsed lung in his team’s preseason game vs. the Minnesota Wild. The injury, which required surgery, is likely to sideline Benn for at least the first 7 games of the team’s 2025-26 season.
Set to enter his 17th NHL campaign, the Stars captain isn’t the offensive force he once was, but was still expected to provide valuable depth on the team’s 3rd line alongside Tyler Seguin, and Matt Duchene. The 36 year old is currently 1 goal away from 400 for his career, 8 games shy of 1,200 and 44 points away from reaching 1,000 career points.
Dallas has come agonizingly close to winning it all the last several seasons, losing in the Western Conference finals the last 3 years running. The team made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals during the 2019-20 season, but ultimately lost in 6 games to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
With personal milestones within reach, and a cup contending team, Benn turned down the chance to earn more money on the open market by signing a 1 year, $1M contract to remain in Dallas. Now, he’ll face an uncertain recovery timeline as he looks to get back on the ice and rejoin his teammates this fall.
Dallas continues their preseason schedule with a Thursday matchup against the Wild, and will officially kick off their regular season on Thursday, October 9th vs. the Winnipeg Jets.
