Terry McLaurin Signs 3 Year Extension

Terry McLaurin Signs 3 Year Extension

The Washington Commanders and wide receiver Terry McLaurin have come to terms on a 3 year extension, worth up to $96M, ending his “hold in” with the club.

The deal, which will include a $30M signing bonus, will allow the veteran wideout to be ready for Week 1 game action when his team opens their regular season against the New York Giants. McLaurin has eclipsed the 1,000 yard receiving marks in 5 consecutive seasons, and was named to his 2nd Pro Bowl in 2025.

Originally drafted in the 3rd round, 76th overall, by Washington back in 2019, McLaurin and the club were at loggerheads over his future for much of the offseason. This culminated in a “hold in” during the preseason, after the 29 year old had already been fined $304,768 for missing the Commanders’ mandatory 3-day mini-camp in June and the first four days of training camp shortly afterwards.

The former Buckeyes standout previously requested a trade out of Washington after the two sides failed to progress their extension talks. However according to multiple reports, a trade was never seriously considered by the Commanders front office.

Although signing an aging player (McLaurin will be 31 when the extension kicks in) may set a dangerous precedent for Washington in their upcoming negotiations with other high profile players, it returns QB Jayden Daniels’ favourite target to the field. The Commanders advanced to the NFC Championship game last season and have high hopes for a similar performance in 2025. Not having their most reliable pass catcher for the start of the season was a genuine concern for many-a-fan in the DC area.

Washington will officially kick off their 2025 NFL campaign on Sunday September 7th as they welcome the Giants to Northwest Stadium in an NFC East rivalry game.
