Terron Armstead Announces Retirement From NFL

Miami Dolphins offensive lineman, and 5x Pro Bowler, Terron Armstead has announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 33.

Armstead hosted a party in Miami on Saturday night with many of his former teammates, family, and friends in attendance to officially kick off his “next chapter”. The announcement brings an end to his decorated 12 year NFL career, split between the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins.

Former Saints QB Drew Brees, who was in attendance at Armstead’s retirement party said “Twelve amazing years in the NFL,” per neworleans.football’s Nick Underhill. “The mainstay wherever he went. I’ll never forget the day that he showed up in our locker room back in 2013. He didn’t start that year off as the starter, but it became evident very quickly that this guy was not only gonna be a starting left tackle for us for a very long time, but he was gonna be a leader in our locker room, he was gonna be a leader in the huddle and he was gonna be a leader throughout the league. He’s exemplified what it takes to be a champion in this league in the locker room and with his teams for a very long time.”

He will officially hang up his cleats having played in 135 games, making 131 regular-season starts, in addition to 11 postseason appearances, for the Saints and Dolphins. Armstead earned all five of his Pro Bowl nominations during a dominant stretch between 2018 and 2023 where he was one of the league’s top players at his position.

Originally a 3rd round pick out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff back in 2013, Armstead join Miami in 2022 when he signed a 5 year, $75M contract to become the team’s starting left tackle. With the 6’5″ 305lbs tackle out of the picture, Miami now has a massive hole along their offensive line, which is especially concerning given QB Tua Tagovailoa’s extensive concussion history.

2024 2nd round pick Patrick Paul is expected to be elevated to the de facto starting role for the time being, though it now seems increasingly likely that Miami could use one of their early round picks to address their offensive line woes.

The Dolphins currently hold the 13th overall selection for the April 24th affair.
