The Buffalo Sabres have signed defenceman Jacob Bryson to a 1 year, $900K contract extension the club announced on Thursday.
Bryson, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, will now come in at a cap friendly figure for another year in Buffalo. The 27 year old blue liner has posted 7 points (0G, 7A) across 42 NHL games this season, averaging 14:22 of ice time per night.
The left-shot defenceman was originally drafted by the Sabres during the fourth round in 2017 and has played 248 games across five seasons with the team. Bryson fills a hole in the Sabres bottom pairing, alongside Connor Clifton, as Buffalo looks to finish out yet another forgotten season without playoffs.
Currently in last place in the Eastern Conference with a 27-33-6 record, the Sabres will look to rejig this roster once again this offseason in the hopes of ending their postseason drought. Not since the 2010-11 NHL campaign have the Sabres been in the playoffs, meaning that an entire generation of Buffalo fans have grown up without seeing their team compete for the Stanley Cup.
The 27 year old hopes to be part of the group that changes that narrative come 2025-26, but for now, will look to build some momentum down the stretch.
