New York Giants Sign Russell Wilson

New York Giants Sign Russell Wilson

The New York Giants and free agent QB Russell Wilson have come to terms on a 1 year deal worth up to $21M according to multiple reports. The pact, which is believed to contain $10.5M in in guaranteed money, brings the veteran QB to New York where he’ll be the favourite to be the starter heading into training camp.

The Giants signed former number 1 overall pick Jameis Winston to a 2 year, $8M contract last week, and retain fan favourite Tommy DeVito as the other QB’s in the Big Apple.

That being said, New York also holds the 3rd overall draft pick, and had been linked to numerous quarterbacks in this year’s class including Cam Ward, and Shedeur Sanders. Rumours had also been floating around that the Giants weren’t opposed to trading up from the number 3 pick if the price was right.

Wilson joins the G-Men following a 1 year stint in Pittsburgh. After missing the first 6 games of the season with a calf injury, Wilson totaled 2,482 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, five interceptions and a 95.6 passer rating, while completing 63.7% of his passes across 11 contests to close out the year.

Pittsburgh would go on to lose to the Baltimore Ravens in the Wildcard Round of the 2024 NFL playoffs.

The Giants started 3 different QBs last year, with Tim Boyle also making an appearance in relief as well. The club would ultimately release former starter Daniel Jones midseason, allowing him to sign with the Minnesota Vikings only a year and change into a 4 year, $160M contract extension. As a result of that QB carousel, New York ranked 28th in passing yards (189.9 yards per game) in the NFL.

With a top 3 draft pick, and a newly revamped QB room in tow, the Giant will look to take positive steps forward in 2025 following a dismal 3-14 NFL campaign in 2024.
