The Montreal Canadiens and forward Jake Evans have come to terms on a new 4 year, $11.4M contract extension the club announced on Tuesday.
The new deal, which will feature an AAV of $2.85M per season, effectively takes him off the trade market heading into Friday’s NHL trade deadline. The 28 year old was in the final season of a 3 year, $5.1M contract which saw him earn $1.7M annually.
Since making his debut in the 2019-20 season, Evans has amassed 329 NHL appearances and produced 120 points (39G, 81A). The Toronto, ON, native has played 61 games with the Canadiens this season, recording 12 goals and 16 assists.
General Manager Kent Hughes had been fielding calls about Evans over the course of the weekend, before ultimately coming back to the bargaining table and ironing out a new deal. The former 7th round draft pick (207th overall) from 2014 will now turn his attention to the playoff push with the Habs, who currently sit just behind the Ottawa Senators in the Eastern Conference wildcard race.
The Canadiens are next in action on Thursday against the Edmonton Oilers, before heading out to Calgary, Vancouver, and Seattle for a 4 game road trip.
