The Philadelphia Eagles have named Kevin Patullo the club’s new offensive coordinator for the 2025 NFL season the team announced Wednesday.
Patullo replaces the recently departed Kellen Moore, who was hired as the new head coach for the New Orleans Saints following the Eagles Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The 43 year old has an extensive history with head coach Nick Sirianni, previously serving as wide receivers coach and then pass game specialist for the Indianapolis Colts between 2018 to 2020 during Sirianni’s stint as the Colts’ offensive coordinator.
Sirianni then hired Patullo as a passing game coordinator when he was hired as the Eagles’ head coach back in 2021. The switch means QB Jalen Hurts will now have his fifth different playcaller since entering the league in 2020. While that level of turnover would be problematic for most quarterbacks, Patullo’s familiarity with Hurts and the rest of the Eagles coaching staff should make the transition much easier this time around.
After Moore began to focus on the run game, and getting star running back Saquon Barkley more involved following the team’s Week 5 bye, Philadelphia rattled off a 10-game winning streak and a Super Bowl title. In all likelihood, Patullo will be rolling out a similar style of play calling until opposing defences prove that they can stop it in 2025.
Since 2021, the Eagles have the following league rankings against their peers in the areas that Patullo has been directly involved:
- 4th in offensive EPA (expected points added) per play
- 2nd in passing yards per attempt
- 2nd in fewest interceptions
- 3rd in points scored
- 3rd in drive score percentage
- 3rd in touchdown percentage
- 5th in successful play percentage
- 6th in passer rating
Patullo has spent time at both the collegiate (South Florida, Arizona, and Texas A&M) and professional levels (Kansas City, Buffalo, Tennessee, New York, Indianapolis & Philadelphia) in a variety of roles. He was also a former QB/WR at the University of South Florida as well, which should all factor into his offensive play calling schemes.
Per Ian Rapoport “Miami Dolphins offensive assistant Parks Frazier is expected to be hired as Patullo’s replacement at pass game coordinator…The move will reunite Frazier with Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni as the two were with the Indianapolis Colts together from 2018-2020.”
