The Golden State Warriors are finalizing a deal to acquire point guard Dennis Schroder from the Brooklyn Nets according to multiple reports from around the league.
The full deal will see Schroder and a 2nd round selection head to the Bay Area, while De’Anthony Melton, and 3 second rounders will head back to Brooklyn. Schroder, who is averaging 18.4pts, and a career best 6.6ast per game doesn’t fit into the Nets long term plans at 31 years old, and may actually be working against what many assumed would be a “tank” season in Brooklyn.
The German point guard’s play thus far has actually buoyed the Nets into a play-in spot at 10-15 overall in the Eastern Conference. That, coupled with the fact that he’ll be a free agent at season’s end, and it quickly became evident that Schroder’s time with the team was limited at best.
Melton, 26, went down with an ACL injury in November, and the Warriors have struggled to find consistency without him. Following a hot start to the season, the Dubs have lost 7 of their last 10 contests to drop to 5th in the West at 14-10 overall.
Schroder will join a guard rotation that features Stephen Curry, Buddy Field, and Brandin Podziemski amongst others. The 12 year NBA veteran will now call Golden State his 8th home after breaking into the association with the Atlanta Hawks as a 20 year old back in 2013-14.
