Wembanyama Becomes 4th Youngest To Score 50 Points In NBA Game

San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama had an historic night Wednesday as his team downed the Washington Wizards 139-130.

The former 1st overall pick scored 50 points on 18 of 29 shooting, while adding 8 three-pointers, 3 blocks, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal in 32 minutes of action. In doing so, he becomes the 4th youngest player in NBA history to score 50 points in a game at 20 years, and 314 days old.

Making the feat all the more impressive is that he hit the 50 point plateau with 8 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, leaving one to wonder how high that total could have reached. Only Brandon Jennings, LeBron James and Devin Booker posted a 50 point game earlier in their careers than the French phenom.

Wemby becomes the 8th Spurs player to hit 50 points in franchise history, joining the likes of David Robinson, George Gervin, LaMarcus Aldridge, Tony Parker, Larry Kenon and Tim Duncan.

Through 12 games, the Spurs centre is averaging 22.3pts/10.2reb/2.7ast/3.8blk per game. His blocks figure once again leads the NBA, and is a full block per game more than 2nd place Walker Kessler (2.8).

With the win, San Antonio moves to 6-6 on the season, good for a tie for 9th in the ultra competitive Western Conference. That same record would put them in sole possession of 4th place in the East as the power seems to have shifted back to the Pacific side of the continent this season.

Up next for the Spurs is a date with the Los Angeles Lakers in a 7:30pm ET showdown for the NBA Cup group stage.
