Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey is set to miss “multiple weeks” with a hamstring injury suffered in Wednesday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Maxey will undergo additional testing in Philadelphia, but is believed to have suffered a moderate right hamstring injury. Averaging 27.6pts per game, the former All-Star had been leading the NBA in minutes played per game through the opening weeks of the season with 39.7 per contest. Now however, the team will need to weather the storm without Maxey and former MVP Joel Embiid who is sitting out the next two contests due to his suspension.
With the loss, Philadelphia falls to 1-6 on the year, and is tied for the worst record across the NBA. In games where they had both Maxey and Embiid available, the team went 29-7 last season. However, that combination was only able to suit up for 36 games total, making their dynamic duo a rare sight.
The recently acquired Paul George was able to suit up for the 2nd game of his 76ers career Wednesday, but will now need to shoulder the offensive load as the team will be without it’s dynamic guard and all-world centre until Tuesday at the earliest.
Philadelphia will take on the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night before heading home for a 3 game home stand vs. the Hornets, Knicks, and Cavaliers. Embiid is eligible to return from suspension for Tuesday’s showdown with the Knicks, which coincides with the team’s NBA Cup group stage game.
The 76ers are expected to provide an update on Maxey’s status later this week.
