Shohei Ohtani Undergoes Surgery On Shoulder

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani underwent surgery on his left shoulder to repair a torn labrum sustained in Game 2 of the World Series on Tuesday.

Despite not missing any games in the postseason, Ohtani was feeling the effects of the injury as he could be seen wincing, and sporting what appeared to be a brace under his jersey for the final 3 games of the series. The procedure, which was performed by renowned specialist Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, isn’t expected to keep the 30 year old out of any spring training activity in 2025.

Luckily for Dodgers fans, the injury was to Ohtani’s non-throwing shoulder, so his ability to return to being a 2-way player next season shouldn’t be affected. Adding some extra incentive to return to form, the Dodgers open spring training in early February, as they’ll be taking part in the Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs on March 18 and 19th.

The Japanese sensation went 10-5 with a 3.14 ERA across 23 starts when he last appeared as a pitcher with the Angels during the 2023 campaign.

Ohtani is 1 year into a $700 million, 10-year pact signed with the Dodgers last offseason.
