Dallas Cowboys QB Dan Prescott is likely headed towards season ending surgery to repair a partially torn hamstring according to reports.
The veteran QB is expected to fly to New York to meet with a specialist to confirm the diagnosis, but sources indicate that the Cowboys have already begun to operate under the assumption they’ll be without their starting signal caller for the duration of 2024.
Word out of Dallas indicates that the team would prefer to address the injury head on, and ensure it heals properly, rather than allowing it to heal on its own via rest and rehab, but potentially encounter complications down the road. The club, which is 3-5 heading into an NFC East showdown with Philadelphia this weekend, is expected to ride Cooper Rush under centre, while likely adding a veteran QB via free agency for depth purposes.
Former top pick Trey Lance could also see some additional usage in specialty packages with the offence moving forward as well. Both Rush and Lance are currently in the last year of their contracts, meaning the homestretch of the season will serve as an audition of sorts to potential suitors this offseason.
In light of the anticipated surgery, Dallas plans to place Prescott on injured reserve next week, and will bring up CB Josh Butler and WR Jalen Moreno from the practice squad.
