Vikings Christian Darrisaw Out For Season

Minnesota Vikings offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw will miss the remainder of the season with a torn MCL and ACL in his left knee the club confirmed Friday.

Darrisaw suffered the injury late in the first half of the Vikings’ 30-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams Thursday night. The team subsequently placed him on injured reserve Friday while activating tight end T.J. Hockenson to their 53-man roster in a corresponding move.

Veteran lineman David Quessenberry replaced Darrisaw in Thursday’s game with mixed results. Head coach Kevin O’Connell didn’t rule out the team possibly acquiring another tackle via trade or free agency in the coming days, but reiterated how integral Darrisaw was to the Vikings system.

“He’s clearly one of our offensive pillars that we have leaned on a lot,” O’Connell said “and it’s going to be a significant loss. But we’ve all got to do a little bit more… I thought [Quessenberry] settled in and did some things to help us, but yeah, whether when you talk about that mentality of trying to get the best five guys in there, not only those five options but then what’s the rest of the depth look like? I do feel like this is where your O-line depth that we felt good about throughout training camp and then leading into the season gives you possibilities and we’ll continue to have that dialogue within our coaching staff and we’ll figure out what the best plan of attack is moving forward, and I do think there’s multiple options on the table with that and that’s what we’ve got to figure out.”

A former first round pick, Darrisaw has been highly effective when on the field, but has battled his fair share of injuries throughout his young career. After being drafted 23rd overall in 2021, the former Virginia Tech standout has been limited to 12, 14, 15 and now 7 games over his first 4 NFL seasons.

After starting the season 5-0, Minnesota has now dropped back to back contests to lose control of the NFC North lead. Up next for the Vikings is a date with the Indianapolis Colts on November 3rd.
