Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani, who is dealing with a partial dislocation of his left shoulder, is expected to be in the lineup for Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters that Ohtani still had a few medical hurdles to clear before he would be officially in the lineup, but that he was trending in the right direction. “That’s my expectation talking to the training staff and getting the reports,” Roberts said. “If it’s a pain-tolerance situation, I just don’t see him not playing Game 3.”
The NL MVP favourite Ohtani was injured while sliding into second base to end the seventh inning of Saturday’s 4-2 win over the New York Yankees. Ohtani was briefly treated by medical personnel and could be seen in visible pain when exiting the field. It’s likely that Ohtani will be able to suit up, but will have to work through the pain in Game 3.
How much that affects his effectiveness at the plate remains to be seen. However, after years of coming up short with the Angels, Ohtani is unlikely to squander any chances he has at winning his first World Series title.
First pitch for Game 3 is slated for 8:08pm ET as the series shifts to New York.
