Detroit Signs Moritz Seider To 7 Year Deal

After extensive negotiations throughout the summer, the Detroit Red Wings have come to terms with blue liner Moritz Seider on a new 7 year, $59.85M contract extension the club announced.

Seider, who was a restricted free agent, appeared in all 82 games with the winged wheel last season, potting a career high 9 goals, and 33 assists along the way.

The 23 year old defender has been one of Detroit’s most durable players, appearing in every contest since making his NHL debut back in 2021. Originally taken 6th overall by the Wings back in 2019, Seider will now earn $8.55M annually, putting him amongst the upper echelon of earners along the blue line.

The German defenceman also boasts extensive international experience as well, having represented his country 3 times at the World Championships. Along the way, he earned the title of Best Defenceman at the 2021 IIHF World Championship, and previously captained the German national team at the 2020 World Juniors.

Seider took home the Calder Trophy in 2021-22 as the league’s top rookie, and now figures to play a pivotal role for Detroit as they look to reach the postseason for the first time since 2015-16.
