One of the most decorated MMA fighters of all time has called it a career.
Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson announced at ONE 168 in Denver on Friday night that he would be retiring from professional MMA. The 38 year old wraps up his storied career with a 25-4-1 record and cements his legacy as one of the greatest flyweight fighters of all time.
“Like I said last time, when I came to Denver, Colorado, I told you guys that was potentially my last fight, and I was not lying,” Johnson told fans. “I am done competing in mixed martial arts.”
Between 2012 and 2017, Johnson dominated the UFC’s flyweight division, regularly dominating opponents from the opening bell. So much so, that the promotion actually considered shuttering the weight class altogether due to Johnson’s sheer dominance.
This eventually led to an ill-fated “trade” between the UFC who sent Johnson to ONE championship in exchange for Ben Askren. Johnson would go on to eventually claim ONE gold, while Askren became known more for being on the receiving end of the fastest KO in UFC history at the hands of Jorge Masvidal.
Mighty Mouse may not have competed in the UFC for years, but he still holds numerous records with the company including most wins (13), most finishes (7) and the longest winning streak (13) in flyweight history.
