Chiefs WR Marquise Brown To Undergo Major Surgery

One of the newest members of the Kansas City Chiefs, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, is set to undergo major surgery, putting his 2024 NFL season at risk.

Brown, who joined the Chiefs this past offseason, will require surgery to address a sternoclavicular injury, which could put him on the sidelines for the rest of the year. The injury, which affects the shoulder joint, will land the 27 year on the injured reserve, guaranteeing that he’ll miss at least the next 4 games. However the expectation is that he’ll miss significantly longer than that.

Speaking to reporters Friday, head coach Andy Reid said “It’s not going to be weeks…More like months.”

“Everybody’s a little different, and this [injury], not a lot of these that we have information on, so we’ve just got to wait it out and see how long it takes. We’ll see where that takes us in this process. But that’s the information we have, and we’re just going to have to hold tight on that.”

Brown’s tenure with Kansas City was short lived to say the least. After coming over from Arizona in the summer, the former Oklahoma Sooner was injured on the first play of the Chiefs’ 1st preseason game vs. Jacksonville.

Brown would ultimately miss the team’s Week 1 win over Baltimore, and expectations were growing that he could return as soon as this weekend. However, additional scans revealed that the bone wasn’t healing properly, and would require surgery to prevent it from becoming a long term issue.

Following a breakout campaign in 2021 where he hauled in 91 passes for 1,008 yards and 6 TDs with Baltimore, Brown has faced a series of minor injuries which have kept him off the field for portions of the last two NFL campaigns.

He suited up for only 12 games in 2022, and managed to get into 14 games in 2023 as he dealt with a variety of ailments. Hopes were nevertheless high for the former 1st rounder when he joined Kansas City and the Chiefs pass happy offence.

Now however, fans may need to wait a full calendar year to see Brown back in action.
