In a rare intradivision trade, the Philadelphia Eagles have acquired WR Jahan Dotson from the Washington Commanders on Thursday.
Dotson, who was Washington’s 1st round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, will head to the city of brotherly love along with a 5th round pick in exchange for a 3rd round selection, and 2 seventh rounders in 2025.
The move is essentially a home coming for Dotson, who was born in Newark, NJ, but attended Nazareth HS in Pennsylvania, before playing college ball at Penn St. He’s now the 2nd high profile Nittany Lion to join the Eagles this offseason after the club added RB Saquon Barkley this summer as well.
The 24 year old WR hauled in 49 passes for 518 yards and 4 TDs in 2023 with Washington, but was largely hindered by inconsistent QB play since joining the NFL. With the Commanders looking to move in a new direction with the selection of Jayden Daniels in this year’s draft, Dotson will get a chance to revitalize his career alongside WRs A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
By adding Dotson to their WR room, Philadelphia now boasts one of the deepest pass catching groups in the NFL. Prior to him joining the team, the club was looking at a combination of Parris Campbell, John Ross, Ainias Smith or Johnny Wilson seeing targets on 3 WR sets. However, Dotson’s addition now gives them a legitimate 3rd option behind their already established duo of Brown and Smith.
The Eagles kick things off on Friday September 6th from Corinthians Arena in Brazil vs. the Green Bay Packers. After that, Dotson will get his first crack against his former team when Washington travels to Philadelphia on November 14th.
