Buddy Hield is officially headed to the west coast after the Golden State Warriors and the Philadelphia 76ers completed a sign and trade deal Thursday afternoon.
Heading back the other way is a 2031 second round pick which the Warriors acquired from Dallas in the Klay Thompson sign and trade deal earlier this week.
As part of the deal, Hield will receive a guaranteed $21M from the Warriors, with $18M in the first 2 years, and $3M guaranteed in year 3. There will also be a non-guaranteed player option for year 4 available as well.
Hield will ostensibly be used to replace the shooting production lost when Golden State opted to move on from franchise icon Klay Thompson, but will also afford the team financial flexibility as well. After being acquired by Philadelphia, the 31 year old shooting guard averaged 12.2pts/3.2reb/3ast per night across 32 games played.
The former Oklahoma Sooner is the latest addition to a Warriors roster which is currently in flux ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Joining Hield in the Bay Area this season are De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson as the franchise begins to move on from the “Big 3” of Curry, Green, and Thompson which helped them capture 4 NBA Championships over the last decade.
