The Memphis Grizzlies and free agent guard Luke Kennard have come to terms on a 1 year, $11M contract extension the club announced Wednesday.
Kennard, who joined the Grizzlies at the trade deadline last year, averaged 11 points and 3.5 assists per game for Memphis down the stretch, while shooting 45% from beyond the arc. Over the course of his 7 year NBA career, the 28 year old has averaged 43.9% on 3 point shot attempts, which is good for 3rd all-time in league history.
After going 51-31 in 2022-23, Memphis suffered through a tumultuous year both on and off the court last season. The club ultimately went 27-55, making them a lottery team in the 2024 NBA Draft where they selected towering centre Zach Edey out of Purdue.
By adding some size to their front court, and retaining a floor spacing sharpshooter in Kennard, Memphis hopes that they’ll be able to build around Ja Morant this season and return to the playoffs after a down year in 2023-24.
