In the storied history of the Chicago Bears football club, no player has ever received a contract extension as large as wide receiver DJ Moore. But the Bears front office was adamant about keeping their star receiver in the Windy City for the long haul.
The club announced on Tuesday that they had come to terms with Moore on a 4 year, $110M contract extension which is the largest in franchise history. The deal, which was negotiated by agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus, and Robert Bailey, also features $82.6M in guaranteed money.
After being acquired by the Bears as part of the team’s deal with Carolina to trade out of the number 1 pick in 2023, Moore led the team in receptions (96), receiving yards (1,364), receiving touchdowns (8) and receiving yards per game (80.2). His 1,364 yards through the air were good for 4th all time in franchise history.
With Caleb Williams now under centre, GM Ryan Poles has clearly prioritized keeping his new franchise signal caller surrounded with high end offensive weapons as he adjusts to life in the NFL. Despite the fact that he was still under contract for another two seasons, the 27 year old will now be tied to the Bears through the 2029 campaign.
With veteran wideout Keenan Allen joining the club this year, and the team selecting talented rookie WR Rome Odunze in this year’s draft, Moore and Williams will be surrounded by talent when the team takes the field later this year.
