Only moments before puck drop of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins completed a blockbuster trade.
Ottawa will acquire goaltender Linus Ullmark in exchange for forward Mark Kastelic, goaltender Joonas Korpisalo (25% salary retained), and the 25th overall pick in the 2024 NHL entry draft.
Ullmark is entering the final season of his 4 year, $20M contract with a modified no-movement clause, and will likely begin talks on an extension immediately. The 6’4″ net minder won the Vezina Trophy in 2022-23 after posting a 40-6-1 record with a .938 save percentage and 1.89 GAA.
Originally selected 163rd overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 2012, Ullmark has a career 138-73-23 record with a .919 save percentage and 2.51 GAA split between the Sabres and Bruins. Twice he’s represented Sweden at the World Championship, earning a bronze medal in 2014.
Widely considered the best goaltender on the market this offseason, Ottawa fans will hope that Ullmark can shore up the Senator’s goaltending situation following several seasons of subpar play from the position.
Heading back the other way is a first round selection which originally belonged to the Bruins, depth forward Mark Kastelic and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo who will serve as backup to Jeremy Swayman in Beantown.
