Burnley Interested In Frank Lampard For Managerial Role

Reports: Burnley interested in signing Frank Lampard as head coach

Frank Lampard has emerged as a contender for the vacant Burnley managerial post, according to the latest reports.

Days after Vincent Kompany left the Clarets following their relegation, the club is back on the hunt for a head coach, with talks supposedly underway with the former Chelsea midfielder.

Lampard has been out of management since serving as an interim boss for the Blues in 2023. Each of his last two roles – at Chelsea and Everton – have come under trying circumstances with both clubs going through massive transitions.

While Chelsea axed Graham Potter, the club needed a familiar face to steady a ship filled with an unbalanced squad, the Toffees’ financial struggles were apparent resulting in a diminishing run of form in the team.

Lampard has proven himself in the Championship after nearly guiding Derby County to the Premier League in his first season as manager, and then taking Chelsea to fourth place amidst a transfer ban.

He would replace his former teammate Kompany, with whom he shared the dressing room at Manchester City briefly.

Kompany failed to secure Premier League status for Burnley as they finished 19th on the league table with just five wins and two clean sheets all season to their credit.

The Belgian signed for Bayern Munich via a three-year deal, as Burnley officially wrote the situation slipped out of their hands.

“We can confirm that Burnley FC has come to an agreement that will allow Vincent Kompany to leave Turf Moor,” the club stated on X.

“Whilst we were initially confident in retaining our manager, the changing dynamics of the situation made this impossible. We understand the allure and prestige of a club like Bayern Munich and respect Vincent’s ambition to explore new opportunities.”

Former Newcastle United and Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy will take temporary charge of the club during this emergency. He’ll be accompanied by first-team coach Mike Jackson as Burnley ‘actively search’ for their new manager.

Steve Cooper was another name that arose as a potential replacement for Kompany, but the Welshman ruled out the possibility.

Scott Parker previously surfaced as an option, but as of now, Lampard appears to be leading the race.
