The New Jersey Devils announced Friday that the club had reached a 3 year, $3.45M contract with forward Kurtis MacDermid. The new deal will carry an AAV of $1.15M, which is a slight increase from his previous 2 year deal which sported an AAV of $987K.
The 6’5″, 235lbs forward began his career with the Los Angeles Kings, signing as an undrafted free agent. He would later be claimed by the Seattle Kraken during the 2021 expansion draft, before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche.
Over the course of his nearly decade long professional career, MacDermid has appeared in 265 NHL contests, scoring 11 goals, and dishing out 20 assists, while accumulating 368 PIMs.
Hockey runs in the MacDermid family as his father Paul played in 690 career games with the Hartford Whalers, Winnipeg Jets, Washington Capitals, and Quebec Nordiques. His older brother Lane also had NHL stints with Boston, Calgary and Dallas from 2011 to 2014.
The 30 year old appeared in 16 contests for the Devils after joining the team via trade with Colorado. New Jersey sent the rights to Zakhar Bardakov and a 2024 7th round pick in order to complete the deal.
