Angel Reese Announced As Co-Founder Of DC Power Soccer Club

LSU legend turned WNBA rookie, Angel Reese, has been announced as a founding owner of the newly launched women’s professional soccer club in Washington, DC.

Reese, a Maryland native herself, has signed on as part of the ownership group of the DC Power Football Club which will compete in the USL Super League which kicks off this August.

“I want to help grow women’s sports and elevate female athletes across the board,” Reese said in a statement. “We’re taking over, and I’m honored to be able to support Power FC and invest in women’s soccer in the DMV (District, Maryland, Virginia) community.”

“Angel’s decision to be a founding investor alongside us in Power FC is groundbreaking,” Jason Levien, D.C. United’s CEO and co-chair, said in a statement. “As a Maryland native, Angel is so passionate about being a catalyst for positive change in women’s sports in the DMV as well as globally while inspiring the next generation of female athletes. We’re looking forward to her partnership in the boardroom as an equity partner.”

The US Soccer federation granted the USL first division status earlier this year, which puts it on even footing with the NWSL in the North American pecking order. Reese’s new club announced on Monday that it would be playing at Audi Field, which already houses D.C. United, the NWSL’s Washington Spirit, and UFL side DC Defenders.

Also taking part in the USL Super League later this summer is Brooklyn FC, Carolina Ascent FC, Dallas Trinity FC, Fort Lauderdale United FC, Lexington SC, Spokane Zephyr FC, and the Tampa Bay Sun FC.

Selected 7th overall by the Chicago Sky in this year’s WNBA draft, Reese hopes to use her platform to further advance women’s athletics across a wide variety of sports.
