While most of the talk in the world of golf has centred around Scottie Scheffler’s hot streak of late, Nelly Korda has been busy making history of her own on the LPGA Tour.
Korda tied the LPGA Tour record for most consecutive tournament victories with her fifth win a row on Sunday, capturing the Chevron Championship. The win also gives her the second major championship of her professional career.
“It’s everything I’ve always wanted since I was a little girl, to lift that major trophy,” the world number 1 told reporters following her win. “That felt like the longest back nine of my entire life… but happy to get the win.”
Sitting 1 shot off the lead when play was suspended, the 25 year old finished with a final round 69 (-3) to earn a 2 stroke victory over Sweden’s Maja Stark. For her efforts, the American will take home $1.2M in prize money from the tournament’s $5.2M purse.
Korda’s hot streak began with a victory at the LPFA Drive on Championship at the Bradenton Country Club on January 28th. She then following that up with wins at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship, Ford Championship, T-mobile Match Play, and finally the Chevron this week.
Rounding out the top 5 at The Club at Carlton Woods was Lauren Coughling (-10), Brooke Henderson (-10) and Hae Ran Ryu (-9).
Up next on the LPGA Tour schedule is the JM Eagle LA Championship at the Wilshire Country Club.
