The Indiana Hoosiers are expected to retain head coach Mike Woodson for the 2024-25 campaign, despite a fairly disappointing season on the court.
Prior to heading back to his alma mater, Woodson had stints as the head coach for the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks. The 65 year old was a player for the Hoosiers from 1976-1980 under Bobby Knight, before being named head coach at Indiana in 2021.
However with the team languishing in the Big 10, speculation around IU was that Woodson could find himself on the outs after the season concluded. Indiana currently sports a 16-13 record, including an 8-10 mark in conference play.
With back to back NCAA tournament appearances, expectations were high for this season in Bloomington. However the Hoosiers will now need to win the Big 10 tournament in order to secure a March Madness berth for a third consecutive year.
Overall, Indiana is 60-39 (.606) during the former NBA bench bosses tenure with the program. But that mark also includes a less than stellar 29-29 record in conference play, which has held the Hoosiers back during Woodson’s time along the sidelines.
Had he been let go, Woodson would have been owed $12.6M by the school for the remainder of his contract. His current deal runs through 2026-27.
