The Los Angeles Dodgers are preparing to shell out another massive $100M+ deal to lock up a key piece of their roster over the long haul.
Catcher Will Smith and the club are putting the finishing touches on a new 10 year, $140M contract which will keep the 28 year old tied to the club through his age 38 season.
Smith is fresh off his first All-Star appearance in 2023 after hitting .269 with 19 home runs and 76 RBIs across 126 games played. His 80 runs scored, 63 walks, and 3 stolen bases were all career highs for the power hitting righty who also led the league with 12 sacrifice flies last year.
The Louisville native has inked multiple 1 year arbitration deals over the course of his MLB career, with his most recent contract being a 1 year, $5.25M deal for 2023. His extension, which is expected to take effect this season, will see his AAV jump to $14M per year from 2024 to the 2034 campaign.
Over 5 seasons in LA, Smith is hitting .263 with 91HRs and 308 RBIs. Now back stateside, the Dodgers are slated to take on the St. Louis Cardinals in a 4:10pm ET showdown on Thursday.
