Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young will miss the next 4 weeks of action after an MRI revealed a tear of the radial collateral ligament in his left pinkie finger.
The injury, which will require surgery, is believed to have been suffered at some point in his team’s 123-121 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Friday. The operation is scheduled for Tuesday, after which Young will be re-evaluated in 4 weeks time.
“During Friday’s game, Trae Young suffered a left-hand injury. He underwent an MRI yesterday, which revealed a tear of the radial collateral ligament (RCL) in the fifth finger of his left hand. He will undergo surgery to repair the RCL on Tuesday and will be re-evaluated in four weeks,” the Hawks said in a statement.
Currently averaging 26.4pts/2.7reb/10.8ast per night, while shooting .426 from the field and 37.1% from behind the arc, the 25 year old will be sorely missed for an Atlanta side fighting for their play-in tournament life at the moment. With a 24-32 record, the Hawks are in the midst of a 3 game skid, and sit 7.5 games back of Orlando for the last guaranteed playoff spot.
Already without forward Onyeka Okongwu who is still in a walking boot due to a sprained toe, Atlanta will be forced to rely even more on Dejounte Murray to shoulder the offensive load.
With games against the Magic, Jazz, and back to back classes with the Nets on their radar, the injury comes at a pivotal time for the club, as Brooklyn is currently chasing them for the final play-in tournament spot in the Eastern Conference.
