Mbappe Confirms Intent To Leave PSG

Mbappe set to leave PSG ahead of next season

Kylian Mbappe has informed Paris Saint-Germain he will leave the club after seven seasons this summer.

The 25-year-old informed the French club’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, amidst continued rumors of his swapping jerseys for European giants Real Madrid.

As per multiple reports, the terms of his agreement with PSG have yet to be agreed upon. He was set to fulfill his word and not leave for free, but with his contract expiring in the coming months, the two parties will need to discover a middle ground before they part ways.

The terms were jotted down after Mbappe returned to the first team after initially being exiled from the pre-season squad that toured Asia.

The grand stand-off stalled contract talks and re-affirmed his desire to join Real Madrid after the Spanish team’s long-term pursuit of the forward. Earlier in 2021, Los Blancos supposedly tabled a whopping £188m offer for Mbappe, but the Frenchman instead penned a three-year deal with PSG as the club refused to sell him. They then chased him in 2022, as well as at the start of the current season.

PSG would go on to add Lionel Messi to a star-studded squad highlighted by decorated players such as Neymar and Mbappe, himself.

However, even after Mbappe notched a staggering 243 goals and 93 assists across 290 appearances, the coveted Champions League title continues to elude PSG. Mbappe has maintained his chart-busting run of form this season despite the noise away from the field, with 31 goals to his name in merely 30 matches.

Les Parisiens are on course to win a 10th Ligue 1 title in 12 years as they sit 11 points in front atop the table. They also took down Real Sociedad on Wednesday this week in a 2-0 first leg UCL win, with Mbappe opening the scoring just before the hour mark.

His aim will be to finish strongly at PSG while Real Madrid fine-tune the details of their eminent offer. By any chance, if Mbappe were to sign a one-year extension, he’d be valued at about £128m.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Mbappe will have to take a massive pay-cut to move to Spain. Regardless, it would make the World Cup winner Real Madrid’s highest-paid player. As of present day, he earns around £171m per year.

Other suitors could also enquire about his services; however, it looks increasingly likely that Santiago Bernabeu will be his next destination.

Meanwhile, PSG travel to Nantes on 17th of February looking to strengthen their grip on the Ligue 1 summit.
