Los Angeles Kings net minder Pheonix Copley will miss the remainder of the 2023-24 season following ACL surgery to repair his injured knee.
The 31 year old sustained the injury in practice on December 15th and has been on long term injured reserve since. Copley was 4-1-2 with a 3.16 goals against average and .870 save percentage at the time of injury.
Since the injury, journeyman goaltender David Rittich has served as Los Angeles’ backup behind starter Cam Talbot. The Kings (20-9-6), currently sit third in the Pacific Division, and have allowed the fewest goals per game this season across the NHL with 2.37 allowed per contest.
The ACL procedure was performed by Dr. Frank Petrigliano at Keck Hospital of USC. Copley’s $1.5M salary will be eligible for salary cap relief for the Kings who are currently flush against the cap.
Los Angeles is next in action on Tuesday night vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning.
