Vegas Golden Knights centre Jack Eichel will be out of the lineup indefinitely after picking up an injury in Thursday’s game vs. the Boston Bruins.
Eichel briefly exited his team’s latest contest in the 2nd period, before returning to the game. It wasn’t until the next day at practice that the 27 year old expressed some discomfort.
“The latest update I got today is he’ll miss a little bit of time,” coach Bruce Cassidy said Saturday afternoon. “But I don’t know how much time…The medical team and him decided to get a few more tests, so that’s where we’re at right now…Obviously not good news for us or Jack, but we’ll see how it plays out. But he’s certainly not available tonight.”
The former Buffalo Sabre is currently leading the Knights in scoring with 19 goals and 25 assists on the season.
Eichel is the 2nd centre to be sideline with injuries recently. William Karlsson is currently considered week-to-week after getting bit by the injury bug himself. In a corresponding move, Byron Froese was recalled from Vegas’ AHL affiliate in Henderson, and is expected to be in the lineup Saturday night vs. Calgary.
Vegas is currently 24-13-5 on the year as they sit 2nd in the Pacific Division, 8pts back of Vancouver. That gap was once significantly narrower, however the Golden Knights find themselves mired in a 3-7 stretch over their last 10 games.
Logan Thompson is expected to get the start in goal for Vegas, as they hope to slow down a Flames offense which has scored 6 goals in back to back games coming into tonight.
