The Philadelphia Eagles narrowly escaped a Christmas Day letdown against the lowly Giants, as QB Jalen Hurts made some NFL history along the way.
Scoring on a 1 yard TD run via the infamous “tush push”, Hurts broke Cam Newton’s record for most rushing touchdowns by a QB by registering his 15th ground score of the year. Newton had previously set the record back in 2011 with the Carolina Panthers.
With the 33-25 win, Philadelphia moves to 11-4 after dropping 3 straight contests to the 49ers, Cowboys, and Seahawks. The victory puts them back atop the NFC East following Dallas’ 22-20 loss to Miami on Christmas Eve.
Hurts has also tied his franchise record for most total touchdowns with 35 (20 passing, 15 rushing), an honour he currently shares with former Eagles QB Randall Cunningham who accounted for 35 back in 1990.
With two games remaining against the Cardinals and Giants, and playoff seeding still very much in play, Hurts figures to add to his record setting totals over the next two weeks as well.
The 25 year old finished the day 24/38 for 301 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, and 34 yards rushing with a touchdown on 8 carries.
