According to reports, Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey has agreed to terms on a new contract that will keep him with the club through the 2027-28 season.
Morey, who joined the 76ers 3 years prior, has seen a tremendous amount of regular season success during his time with the club, posting a .653 winning percentage during his time in Philadelphia. Unfortunately that hasn’t translated to the postseason thus far, as the club has been bounced in the 2nd round of the playoffs in each of the past 3 campaigns.
Overall, he sports a 810-489 record as a GM, splitting time between the 76ers and Houston Rockets, and has overseen two of the more tumultuous moments in franchise history in recent years. Both the Ben Simmons saga, followed shortly thereafter by the blood feud between Morey and James Harden hasn’t made for smooth sailing in the City of Brotherly Love of late.
While financial terms of the deal haven’t been made publicly available as of yet, Morey’s new deal aligns itself with that of new head coach Nick Nurse, effectively tying the two at the hip for the next few years. Nurse joined the Sixers in June this year, following a 5 year stint as head coach of the Toronto Raptors.
Thus far, Philadelphia is 16-7 on the year, good for 4th place in the Eastern Conference. The team is next in action Friday at 7pm as the lowly Detroit Pistons (2-22) come to town.
