The Columbus Blue Jackets are activating star forward Patrik Laine from injured reserve following a 3 week absence.
Laine was injured in an October 19th game vs. Calgary after taking a late hit from blue liner Rasmus Andersson. He would go on to miss the team’s next 9 games with an upper body injury. Prior to being hurt, the Finn recorded two points (1G, 1A) across 4 contests with the Blue Jackets.
In a corresponding move, Columbus announced that they would be assigning 19 year old defenseman David Jiricek to the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters. Jiricek had posted three points (1G, 2A) and 6PIMs in 10 appearances for the Blue Jackets in 2023-24.
In thirteen games, Columbus has struggled to find their footing to start their year posting a 4-6-3 record. Losers of their last 3 games, the Blue Jackets currently occupy last place in the Metropolitan Division.
Columbus is back in action vs. the Detroit Red Wings in what will mark Laine’s return to NHL game action.
