The Denver Nuggets have come to terms on a contract extension with head coach Mike Malone the club announced.
Currently the 4th longest tenured head coach in the NBA, Malone will now be tied to the Nuggets through the 2026-27 season. While financial details have yet to be released, it’s being reported that the new deal will make the 52 year old one of the highest paid coaches in the league.
Over the past 9 seasons, Malone has amassed a 375-272 record in Denver, while helping to guide the franchise to its first championship in club history. The Astoria, NY native has roamed the Nuggets’ sidelines since 2015, and currently sits 3rd all-time on the club’s coaching wins list trailing only George Karl and Doug Moe.
A 2x NBA All-Star coach, Malone has earned the respect of both players and executives alike around the league with his no nonsense approach to the game, and ability to connect with players. After taking over a 30 win team, the former Kings head coach has helped the Nuggets win 3 division titles over the last 5 seasons, and make five consecutive playoff appearances.
Currently 8-2 on the season, Denver sits atop the Western Conference and is looking like a viable contender to go on another deep playoff run this spring. The Nuggets are next in action Tuesday at 10pm ET against the Los Angeles Clippers.
