After suffering cardiac arrest during a team workout in July, USC freshman Bronny James is slowly but surely working his way back towards game action.
Speaking to the media after his team’s 108-107 loss to the Miami heat, LeBron James said “He’s doing rehab. Every week he gets to do more and more and more. We have a big moment at the end of this month to see if we can continue to go forward. If he’s cleared, we’ll be not too long away from him being back on the floor and back with his teammates and practicing, with the notion of being back on the floor and playing in game situations.”
That medical evaluation will attempt to determine whether the eldest James sibling is fully recovered from his summer scare and if he’s at risk of suffering another such incident in the future.
The 19 year old underwent successful surgery to repair a congenital heart defect which is believed to have caused the medical episode. A family spokesperson had previously stated that the James clan believed that Bronny would make a full recovery and return to the court when the time was right.
“Everything’s on the up and up,” LeBron added Monday. “We’re proud of his progress. We’re proud of his strength.”
Bronny joined top ranked recruit Isaiah Collier at USC this season, where the 6’4” combo guard was projected to help the Trojans reach the NCAA tournament for a 4th consecutive season.
