The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed blue liner Logan Stanley to a 1 year / $1M contract the club announced.
The 25 year old defender was limited to just 19 games in 2022-23, posting 3pts (1G, 2A) in the process. A former 1st round pick back in 2016, Stanley enjoyed a career year in 2021-22 where he registered a career high 13pts (1G, 12A) across 58 NHL appearances.
The 6’7” defenseman is coming off a 2 year / $1.8M contract, but has thus far struggled to carve out a role at the NHL level for himself. With a multitude of lower body injuries last season, Stanley will look to turn in a bounce back campaign this fall before once again becoming an RFA in 2024.
The Waterloo, ON native has spent his entire NHL career with the Jets franchise, but had also previously requested a trade from the front office. While that deal never materialized, his newly signed cap friendly contract could see him moved before the season is complete.
The $1M pact essentially matches his qualifying offer which was extended to him back in June. With Stanley under contract, Winnipeg now has just shy of $2M in cap space entering the 2023-24 campaign.
Fellow blue liner Ville Heinola had also requested a trade out of Winnipeg after finding it difficult to earn regular playing time amongst the Jets crowded defense corps. Winnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will likely weigh the club’s options heading into training camp before making any firm decisions on the state of the team’s blue line.
