Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman was awarded a 1 year / $3.475M contract by an independent arbitrator on Tuesday.
After sitting through an arbitration hearing on Sunday, the 24 year old netminder was awarded the contract following a stellar 2022-23 campaign in which he posted a 24-6-4 record with a 2.27 GAA and .920 SV%. His efforts between the pipes helped earn a William Jennings Trophy for himself and Linus Ullmark.
Originally selected in the 4th round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Swayman will become a restricted free agent this offseason once more.
The Anchorage, Alaska native has appeared in 88 career games at the NHL level, accumulating 54 wins during that time. Swayman spent 3 seasons at the University of Maine where he set program records for career saves (3,130), and minutes played (5,906:45). His collegiate .927 SV% sits second in school record books trailing only former Detroit Red Wings netminder Jimmy Howard.
Swayman was named to the NHL All-Rookie team in 2022, while also taking home NHL Rookie of the Month honours in February as well. The 6’2” goaltender has twice represented the United States internationally, capturing bronze at the 2018 World Juniors, and placing 4th at the 2022 World Championships.
The $3.475M contract represents a significant bump from his previous $925K AAV deal he was playing on this past season. Swayman and the Bruins front office will likely begin long term extension discussions later this year.
