Aces star Candace Parker is out indefinitely following a surgical procedure on her foot Monday to repair a fractured bone.
Parker, 37, has reportedly been playing through the injury all season, but it became clear recently that the only way to return her to full health would be surgery. The former Chicago Sky standout joined the Aces as a free agent this offseason and has averaged 9pts/5.4reb/3.7ast per game in 18 contests with the club thus far.
The 6’4” PF/C has been sidelined since July 7th after re-aggravating the injury in a game vs. the Dallas Wings.
Las Vegas currently sits 7.5 games up on the Wings in the Western Conference with a 21-2 record. The team recently downed the Minnesota Lynx 98-81 to tie the WNBA record with 5 consecutive 15+ point victories.
With the team firing on all cylinders, and roughly a month and a half remaining in the regular season, the hope is that by undergoing the procedure now, that Parker will be able to return to action for a deep postseason run.
The former 1st overall pick took to social media to provide an update on her status, telling fans “I’ve been playing on a fracture all season, tolerating the pain, but after consulting with doctors, the only option for me to be healthy again and avoid further injury was to elect for surgery.”
“I’ll rehab and work my way towards being healthy as soon as possible. For my teammates; for my circle; for my family; for myself.”
In Parker’s absence, the Aces have turned to Kiah Stokes to eat up the future hall of famer’s minutes in the front court. In 23 appearances, Stokes is averaging 2.5pts/5.3reb/0.6ast in 19 minutes of action per night.
