News: Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot pens new deal
Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot has put pen to paper, extending his current deal at the club until June 30th, 2028.
The 24-year-old was snapped up from Porto back in 2018 and has since amassed 107 appearances for the Red Devils, including 26 of them in the Premier League this season – his most in a footballing calendar year since joining the club.
Both Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have relished playing under Erik ten Hag, forming a formidable partnership after initially struggling to break into the team.
“Playing for Manchester United is one of the highest honours that you can have in football. We have shared some fantastic moments over the past five years, and I’ve grown so much and my passion for this incredible club has only increased since the day that I joined,” he said, upon signing his new contract.
Dalot starred in United’s Wembley win in the League Cup final. He could play another huge role against neighbors Manchester City on June 3rd when the two rivals face-off in the FA Cup final.
A sense of reliability, assurance and togetherness continues to grow under Ten Hag’s reign as head coach, with the club already having won a trophy and secured Champions League football for next season.
Dalot is another player who has significantly upgraded both sides of his game as a right-back, as consistently seen in his exploits for Portugal during the World Cup.
Manchester United’s football director John Murtough was delighted to call Dalot an ‘important member’ of the squad in the coming years. He also remarked “Diogo is an excellent defender, with a great combination of pace, strength, and versatility. He has consistently developed, improving year-on-year since joining the club in 2018. Diogo’s work ethic and professionalism is superb; the way in which he prepares himself every day in order to perform at his highest level is exactly what we all want from a Manchester United player.”
The next step for Dalot would be to keep himself fit and firing on a constant basis as the group looks to land another trophy before calling it for the season.
Wembley awaits a first ever major final between Manchester United and City.
