The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired catcher Tyler Heineman from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for infielder Vinny Capra.
Heineman, 31, has appeared in 85 career MLB games, 10 of which came with the Jays last season. Across his Major League career, the backstop has amassed a .210 average with 1HR, 12 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.
Originally selected in the 8th round of the 2012 MLB draft, the Los Angeles native previously spent time with the Marlins, Giants, and Astros organizations. Heineman would make his MLB debut with Miami in 2019.
As part of the deal, Heineman was added to the 40 man roster and optioned to Triple-A. In order to make room, OF Jordan Luplow was assigned outright to Triple-A Buffalo.
Heading back the other way is 26 year old infielder Vinny Capra, who has 1 hit in 5 career MLB at bats to go along with 2 runs scored. Toronto selected the Melbourne, FL native in the 20th round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
Capra has since been assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis to complete the transaction.
Pittsburgh also announced that feel good story Drew Maggi was returned to Double-A Altoona following their double header vs. Washington which saw the 13 year minor leaguer collect his first MLB hit and RBI.
Following 1,154 games played in the minor leagues since 2010, Maggi, 33, will rejoin his team in Double-A ball as the Pirates prepare to hit the road for a 6 game swing.
